Jo’burg audiences are invited to laugh, cry and enjoy Irene Stephanou’s latest one woman show “Searching for Somebody”. Agapi (also known as Gabi) Zevlaris manages her uncles dry cleaning store “True Elegance” in the small town of Discovery, Roodepoort.  Gabi suffers from two incurable diseases – she suffers from the chronic incurable condition, multiple sclerosis. The second condition over which she has no control is that she is a white South African.

Originally directed by Clara Vaughan the short pre – Grahamstown Festival run is directed by Athena Mazarakis – both esteemed colleagues of Irene’s. Critic Robin Sassen writes “will make you laugh and cry – often simultaneously.”

“Searching for Somebody echoes Stephanou’s previous successes, with a poignancy and a sharpness that reflects a performer in her maturity. Hers is a unique approach in which she takes her own realities and evolves and polishes them into a work so professional and honed that it is able to carry an emotional rawness that touches your essence, making you laugh and weep unashamedly, yet it never digresses into self-serving gesture.” Posted in Review, Robyn Sassen, Theatre
